Election Reform Measure Fails In House

March 7, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

An attempt to make you show a form of identification before you cast a ballot fails in the House as the chamber advances election reform. Representative Beth Long of Lebanon wanted to require either the voter registration card or that two election judges verify the identity of a
voter. She worries her colleagues confused her amendment with those being promoted in Washington. Bill sponsor Jim Seigfried of Marshall opposed Long’s idea. He disagrees with Long that an ID would prevent the voter fraud that
occurred in St. Louis in 2000, he says too many election judges don’t even ask for registration cards given out now.
The bill needs another favorable vote before it moves to the Senate which is working on its own bill.
