March 5, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

Another Missourian has been listed as one of the soldiers killed in yesterday’s fighting in eastern Afghanistan. 31-year-old Sergeant Philip Svitak of Joplin was with an Army Special Forces group coming under fire as the helicopter was putting soldiers on the ground. He was one of seven people killed in two helicopter incidents at the scene. He’s survived by a wife and two young sons ages two and five who live near Fort Campbell, Kentucky. His parents live in Newton County. A Southwest Missouri man was killed over the weekend in the war in Afgahnaistan. Warrant Officer Stanley Harriman was from the Springfield area.
