Not Guilty Verdict In Highway Patrol Rape Case

February 16, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

A State Highway Patrol officer accused of raping an 11-year-old girl, 13 years ago, has been found not guilty by a jury in Springfield. Sergeant David Callaway has been suspended without pay while the case has been decided. Evidence at the trial indicated it would have been difficult for Callaway to have raped the girl while giving her a swimming lesson within ten yards of other members of her family. The prosecutor had no physical evidence. The defense raised several questions about the honesty of Highway Patrol questioning of Callway, and of the reports written about it. Callway wants to be a trooper again. The Patrol might decide if he can be when it holds a disciplinary hearing next week.]
