Missouri Chamber Blasts Holden Over Appointment

February 16, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

The Missouri Chamber of Commerce is criticizing Governor Bob Holden over his appointment of Jack Madigan as Acting Chair of the Missouri Labor Commission. Chamber President Dan Mehan says this pro-labor appointment, on the heels of Senate rejection of the previous appointee – Renee Slusher -is the wrong thing to do. Mehan says there are constitutional questions raised because an appointment during the legislative session requires Senate advice andconsent. As for the appointment, Mehan fears a Chair who is seen as less than impartial could lead to some businesses locating in states other than Missouri.
