Attorney General Disappointed By Mining Decision

February 16, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

Attorney General Jay Nixon says he’s disappointed that the U.S. Forest Service has given the go-ahead for the Doe Run Company of St. Louis to conduct exploratory drilling in the Mark Twain National Forest. Nixon had fought against the idea. But, he says the decision didn’t surprise him. Nixon doesn’t believe the company will stop at exploratory drilling. He says everyone knows there’s lead in Mark Twain and he believes the company will soon apply for a permit to mine the forest, which he says will mar one of the most pristine areas of Missouri.
