Lawyers’ Squabbles Over Tobacco Money No Longer Secret

February 7, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

Lawyers apparently fighting about how much money they’ll get from the national tobacco settlement attorneys fees, and how soon, have given up trying to keep their squabble a secret. A motion will be filed in a Springfield court today to un-seal the court documents in the dispute. The Springfield News-Leader and television station KYTV have filed an open records lawsuit to get access to therecords. Attorney General Jay Nixon says the records should not be secret. The judge made the records a secret when one of the law firms in line to get some of the $111-million in attorneys fees sued the lead attorney in the case.
