New Warning Issued On Unemployment Benefits Fund

January 15, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

On the heels of Auditor Claire McCaskill’s warning about problems with the state’s Unemployment Benefits Compensation Fund comes another red flag – this one from Gracia Backer, Director of the Division of EmploymentServices. Backer says the General Assembly must act, and the options include indexing the amounts businesses pay to the Trust Fund and changing the law limiting what can be kept in the Trust Fund. Backer says action has been put on hold for too long. On a positive note, Backer is pleased that both Democrat and Republican lawmakers have been eager to talk to her about the problem and about possible solutions.
