Anti-death penalty leaders in Missouri say next Wednesday morning’s execution of James Johnson will be the 750th in the nation since the death penalty was reinstated. The group Missourians to Abolish the Death Penalty plans several vigils and demonstrations next Tuesday. Johnson killed a sheriff, a sheriff’s wife, and two deputies in 1991 in a series of incidents in Moniteau County.
