K.C. Arts Patron Dies

January 2, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

Kansas City financier Richard J. Stern has died at the age of 88, outliving doctors’ predictions by ten years. Stern, of Stern Brothers and Company, was well known in Kansas City as a patron of the arts. His company financed construction of the Kemper Arena, the Truman Sports Complex, and Kansas City International Airport. Ten years ago, doctors told Stern he needed a triple-bypass heart operation or he would die. He refused the surgery.
