Missouri Senators Favor Safety Net In Farm Bill

December 13, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

As debate on the Farm Bill goes on, both Senator Christoher Bond and Senator Jean Carnahan agree Missouri farmers need the freedom to decide what they will grow and how it will be marketed. They both also agree on the need for a safety net in case of an emergency. Carnahan says the safety net is needed because of the danger of low commodity prices, weather disasters, and pest invasions. Bond, who sits on an Agriculture subcommittee, agrees a safety net is necessary, but not as a substitute to good business sense. He favors a Republican alternative to what the Democrats are currently offering.
