Questions Raised About Education Money Derived From Gambling

December 12, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

The issue of the amount of money Missouri education receives from gambling and lottery proceeds has been raised during a meeting of the House Education Committee. Education Commissioner Kent King has presented his funding proposal for Fiscal Year 2003, in which he asks for $4.8-Billion. During questioning from panel members, King said that while he’s pleased with the $300-Million education receives each year from gambling, that is only a small amount of the money needed to educate young Missourians. He adds there is a feeling, among some people, that the amount provided is much greater than it is.
