The old adage, “You get what you pay for,” turns out to be true in many cases. but it is not always true when what you’re paying for is nursing home care. An aging population means more and more Missourians are searching for quality nursing home care. University of Missouri-Columbia nursing professor Marilyn Rantz has completed a study which shows higher cost does not always lead to better quality. Rantz says that while there are no guarantees, a home with low staff turnover is generally one that provides better care. She says the key to finding quality nursing home care is to shop for a home as you would for anything else. And, don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions.
