Penalty Phase of Nelson Trial Delayed

October 31, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

The penalty phase of Keith Nelson’s murder trial in Kansas City has been delayed by a week. Nelson has been hospitalized in a privately-run jail for federal prisoners in Leavenworth, Kansas. The federal prosecutor is not saying why the delay has been called. Nelson admits he kidnapped 10-year-old Pamela Butler two years ago and killed her, then dumped her body behind a church in Grain Valley. Jurors will be deciding whether he is to be executed or whether he is sentenced to life in prison.
