State Auditor Claire McCaskill charges the state transportation department has been wasting money with its annual “roadeo” competition. The auditor says the events the last two years have cost the state more than $870,000. The events are held for department employees to demonstrate their expertise with heavy equipment. The auditor says it’s not an effective use of resources. MODOT says it already had suspended the roadeos before the audit was released, but it insists the competition was a valuable training tool.
