Charities in Missouri are having a tough time meeting contribution goals as money has been diverted to New York. The Chairman of the United Way in the Ozarks, John Twitty, acknowledges it will be difficult to meet the agency’s campaign goal of $3.2 million. The nonprofit organization is about $1 million short of its goal with the November 8th deadline fast approaching. Twitty says money that normally would go to the local United Way has been sent to help the national relief effort. He also blames layoffs and a shaky national economy.
