A.J. – After Jackie: The SMS Story

October 30, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

The Southwest Missouri State Lady Bears are preparing for the 2001-2002 season, a season which will see them play without NCAA all-time leading scorer Jackie Stiles as well as four other graduated seniors. Despite a lot of new faces, the Lady Bears have been picked as high as second in some Missouri Valley Conference pre-season polls. Of course the Lady Bears are coming off an NCAA Final Four appearance last season, and hopes are high for this season. At MVC Media Day this week, Matt Leon had the chance to talk with senior forward Carolyn Weirick who is expected to start for SMS. Coming off an injury redshirt, Weirick thinks this SMS team is ready to compete at a high level and she gives some insight as to what the 2001-2002 SMS squad is all about.
