Missouri Leads National Settlement With Florida-Based Buying Clubs

October 24, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

A group of Florida-based buying clubs will pay more than $9-million to settle allegations they deceives consumers across the country into signing up for “free” trial memberships and then places unauthorized charges on the consumers’ credit cards. Attorney General Jay Nixon says Missouri joined Florida in leading a multi-state investigation in conjunction with the Federal Trade Commission. The probe resulted in more than forty states entering into the agreement, which now awaits court approval in each state.
