Cardinals Find Themselves In Early Hole

October 10, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

Curt Schilling pitched a brilliant three-hit shutout, striking out nine to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 1-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game #1 of their National League first-round playoff series. Schilling outdueled Matt Morris, who allowed just a run on six hits in seven innings to take the loss. The only run of the game scored in the fifth-inning when Steve Finley touched Morris for an RBI single. Edgar Renteria had two of the three Cardinals hits off Schilling. Game #2 is today in Phoenix. Woody Williams will start for St. Louis, Randy Johnson for Arizona.
