Missouri’s political officials are applauding the Bush Administration’s strikes on terrorist targets in Afghanistan in response to the September 11th attacks on the United States. Senator Christopher Bond says the U.S. was right to wait until it had adequate intelligence information to respond. That sentiment is echoed by West Central Missouri Congressman Ike Skelton – the ranking Democrat on the U.S. House Armed Services Committee. Skelton says the Administration is handling this properly. Senator Jean Carnahan applauds the strikes, saying President Bush has been measured in his approach and targeted in his focus. For his part, Governor Bob Holden is assuring Missourians that the State Emergency Management Agency, the Missouri National Guard, and Missouri’s special adviser for homeland security insist security precautions are in place at the state level and the situation is being monitored for any additional action that might be necessary.
