The St. Louis Cardinals returned to action last night and played a solid ballgame in beating the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1. Of course this was the first night of action on the field in the majors since the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington and Western Pennsylvania and more then 30-thousand fans turned out in St. Louis. Bud Smith made his first start since his no-hitter 13 days ago and pitched very well once again. The rookie lefthander allowed just an unearned run on three hits in seven innings of work to improve to 5-2 on the season. With the win, the Cardinals move to within 4 1/2 games of first-place Houston with the win. The Astros were off on Monday.
