Missouri’s Congressional Delegation Urges Strong Response To Terrorism

September 12, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

They often disagree on policy issues, but members of Missouri’s Congressional delegation are united when it comes to talking about a swift response to this week’s acts of terrorism. Southeast Missouri Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson says it is important for the United States to strike back at those responsible. St. Louis Congressman Lacy Clay agrees that a strong response is needed. But they are unsure as to how to respond to speculation in Washington that President Bush will ask Congress for a declaration of war. Emerson says the term “war” might not be exactly what is called for. Clay isn’t sure whether a “war” is what is needed, but he points out Attorney General John Ashcroft has called the terrorist actions acts of war.
