Matt Morris pitched seven shutout innings, allowing six hits and leading the St. Louis Cardinals past the San Diego Padres 6-1. Morris is now 19-7 on the season, he did not walk a batter and struck out five. The Cardinals do not pick up any ground in the Central, as first place Houston beat Cincinnati 7-1 to keep the Birds six games back. Albert Pujols and Jim Edmonds hit back-to-back home runs in the seventh in the win.
