The national figures showing a decrease in the number of children killed in air bag related deaths is welcomed by safety officials throughout the country. Missouri safety officials can celebrate even better news. The problems associated with automobile air bags first came to light in the mid-1990’s and steps were taken to cut back on air bag related deaths and injuries. Since that time, various studies have been keeping track of developments. Nationwide, the child air bag death rate has dropped by 90-percent since 1996. There 191 air bag deaths overall during that period – only one in Missouri.
