The Internal Revenue Service has passed the halfway point in its program to send checks totalling as much as $300, $500, and $600 to Missouri taxpayers as a result of the new federal tax legislation. The IRS in St. Louis says a total of about $70-million dollars in checks is being sent out each week to Missourians. Some are complaining they’re not receiving the amounts they hoped to receive. The IRS points out the amounts are based on returns for the year 2000 and for tax liability so far this year. Information on how to make readjustments will be included in income tax returns that will be sent to taxpayers in the spring.
