Department Of Economic Development Looking To Keep Jobs In Missouri

August 13, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

Missouri jobs are going to China, Coutheast Asia, and Mexico. The Department of Economic Development is looking at ways of keeping many of those jobs here. Economic Development Director Joe Driskill says the problem is a national one. He says the state’s economy is stable, the average income is higher than the national average, and the cost of living is low, but the unemployment rate is up as national economic conditions take their toll on businesses. He says the government and private sector need to work together to formulate a plan to help Missouri’s manufacturers compete more successfully in a global economy.
