Close Calls Involving Horses In Amish Country

August 3, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

Increasing traffic on Highway 190 in northwest Missouri, coupled with a high Amish population, leads to accidents and near misses involving horses and buggies. Jamesport boasts the highest Amish population in Missouri. Highway 190 has become a more heavily traveled road by tourists and Transportation Department officials are concerned about safety. They’re considering building a separate trail for the Amish, or extending the shoulder. Amish landowners say they would donate the right-of-way along the seven mile stretch of Highway 190.
