Cardinals Stymied by Pirates

July 23, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

Lefthander Jimmy Anderson shutout the St. Louis Cardinals on six hits over eight innings of work to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 2-0 win on Sunday. The Cardinals Darryl Kile matched Anderson for eight innings, but he was lifted to start the ninth and replaced by Mike Timlin. The righthander promptly allowed both Pirate runs to take the loss. Timlin falls to 3-5. Keith Osik snapped the scoreless tie with an RBI single. St. Louis drops two out of three over the weekend to the Pirates.
