Bret Boone’s 10th-inning RBI single off Roberto Hernandez (2-3) snapped a scoreless tie and helped give the Seattle Mariners a 2-0 victory over the hapless Kansas City Royals. The loss overshadowed a brilliant performance by righthander Chad Durbin. he went eight innings, allowing no runs and just four hits. Durbin’s most impressive work came in the seventh when he loaded the bases with nobody out, and got out of the jam without allowing a run to score. This is the second straight tough no-decision for Durbin. Last time out he pitched eight shutout innings in an eventual 1-0 loss to Pittsburgh.
