The St. Louis Cardinals dropped under .500 again with a 7-5 loss to Detroit yesterday. Jeff Weaver (8-8) allowed just two runs on three hits in six-plus innings of work to pick up the win for the Tigers. The only real excitement in this one for Cardinal fans came in the 7th when Mark Mcgwire hit two-run home run. The blast was the 563rd of his career and it tied him with Reggie Jackson for sixth on the all-time home run list. Darryl Kile (9-7) allowed three earned runs on eight hits in six innings of work to take the loss for the Cards.
