Plan To Reintroduce Elk Scrapped

July 12, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

A controversial plan to reintroduce elk to Missouri has been scrapped by the State Conservation Commission. Officially, the Commission dropped the plan due to concern elk could spread Chronic Wasting Disease. But the plan to bring back elk to the state met opposition from the start. Concerns about disease couldn’t be overcome and the Commission is now considering the restoration of dwindling native species.
