Jerome Mallett has been executed for the 1985 shooting death of a Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper. The shooting of Trooper James Froemsdorf occurred in March of 1985 on Interstate 55 north of Cape Girardeau. Mallett had been pulled over for a traffic stop and handcuffed by Froemsdorf. Mallet somehow got out of the handcuffs and, during a struggle, shot and killed the trooper. Shortly after midnight, Mallett was put to death by lethal injection at the prison in Potosi.
