Benes Awful Again in Cardinals Loss

July 2, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

Make it five straight losses for the St. Louis Cardinals and 11 losses in their last 12 road games as they dropped a 5-4 decision in San Francisco. The Giants beat-up Cardinal starter Andy Benes, torching him for five second inning runs. The righthander allowed the five runs on six hits and lasted just 2 1/3 innings. Benes is now 6-6 and his ERA stands at 6.62. The Cardinals losing streak has dropped them back to .500 at 40-40. They are seven games behind the first place Chicago Cubs in the National League Central.
