Kris WIlson made his first Major League start and picked up his first Major League win going seven innings and allowing eight hits and just one run, leading the Kansas City Royals past the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 on Wednesday night. Wilson started in place of Jeff Suppan who was bumped back in the rotation because of back trouble. The Royals broke out early in this one, scoring three times in the first off of loser Matt Morris. The Cardinals’ righthander allowed all four Royals runs on 12 hits in six innings of work to fall to 8-4 on the season.Mark Sweeney and Rey Sanchez led the way at the plate for Kansas City with three hits each. Sanchez is 6-8 in the first two games of this series with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and a walk. The cardinals lone run last night came on Mark McGwire’s third home run of the season in the second inning. The two teams will wrap-up their three-game series tonight as the Cardinals try to avoid the sweep behind Mike Matthews. The Royals will start Paul Byrd.
