Chad Durbin allowed just two earned runs on five hits in 8 1/3 innings of work, leading the Kansas City Royals past the St. Louis Cardinals 7-4. Durbin (4-5) threatened to become the first Royals pitcher to finish what he started, but he was lifted after allowing a two-run home run to Albert Pujols in the 9th. The righthander walked two and struck out five. Rey Sanchez led the Royals attack with three hits while Carlos Beltran and Carlos Febles each knocked in a pair of runs. Darryl Kile struggled in this one for St. Louis, allowing all seven runs on nine hits in six-plus innings of work to fall to 7-6 on the season. The Cardinals are now 1-6 on this nine-game road trip. Kansas City broke this game open with four runs in the seventh inning.
