Yesterday was not a happy day for baseball in the state of Missouri.Rondell White’s 10th-inning, two-out single scored Sammy Sosa with thewinning run as the Cubs beat St. Louis 4-3. The Cubs swept the mid-weekseries from the Cards and moved to a five-game lead in the NL Central. JimEdmonds had a two-run homer for the Cardinals. Jeff Fassero got the win.Mike Timlin took the loss.White Sox lefthander Mark Buehrle befuddled the Royals yesterday atKauffman. Buehrle went eight shutout innings, giving up just two hits, ina 5-1 ChiSox win. Magglio Ordonez went four-for-four with two doubles.Chad Durbin gave up three runs in six innings and took the loss.The Rams signed six-year veteran O-lineman Rod Jones to a one-year deal.Jones, a former Bengal, is expected to provide depth at either tacklespot. The Rams also worked out veteran punter Leo Araguz.The Chiefs promote Lynn Stiles to vice president for player personnel.Stiles has worked 20 years for the Chiefs and worked three years for theRams in the late ’90s.
