State Lawmaker Looks To Ease Missouri’s Financial Crunch

June 4, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

A state representative believes state government has overlooked a way to ease its financial problems. Representative Gary Marble of Neosho is proposing reviewing 391 separate accounts to determine whether the interest earned can be used to offset shortfalls in the general revenue budget. But the State Treasurer’s Office says more than 130 of the funds have balances of less than $100,000. It adds 80 of those funds cannot be touched because they are filled with federal dollars.
