Killer Smith Executed After Delay

May 24, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

Convicted killer Sam Smith has been put to death at the Potosi prison, 21 hours after his execution had originally been scheduled. Smith was to die at 12:01 Wednesday morning for the 1987 stabbing death of a fellow inmate at the Jefferson City prison. But a last ditch appeal earned him a stay of execution from the Missouri Supreme Court. Wednesay afternoon, the Supreme Court vacated the stay, clearing the way for Smith’s execution. He died from lethal injection shortly after 9 o’clock Wednesday evening.
