Stay Of Execution Lifted In Smith Case

May 23, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

The Missouri Supreme Court has lifted the stay of execution issued in the case of Samuel Smith, who was sentenced to die just after midnight this morning for the stabbing death of another inmate at the Jefferson City prison in 1987. The stay was issued a short time before Smith was to have been given the lethal injection. This afternoon, the Supreme Court vacated the stay. Smith is now scheduled to be put to death this evening.
