Joe Sakic’s goal :24 seconds into overtime gave the Colorado Avalanche a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Blues in Game #5 of the NHL’s Western Conference Finals. As a result, Colorado wins the best-of-seven series 4-1. Brent Johnson got the surprise start between the pipes for the Blues and played well, making 34 saves. He replaced Roman Turek in the starting line-up. The Avs game-winning goal was scored on the power play following a four-minute double minor call on Alexander Khavanov for high-sticking. Bryce Salvador scored the only goal of the game for St. Louis in the second period. The Avs advance to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1996.
