Cardinals Salvage One in Philadelphia

May 21, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

Fernando Vina drilled a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to snap a 1-1 tie and help give the St. Louis Cardinals a 3-1 win in Philly, salvaging the final game of their weekend series. Vina’s home run was his first of the season and it came off loser Amaury Telemaco (4-1). Dustin Hermanson picked up the win for St. Louis to improve to 5-1. He allowed just five hits and the one run in seven innings of work. Dave Veres got the final four outs to earn his fifth save of the season. Ray Lankford opened the scoring yesterday for the Cardinals with a solo home run in the second inning. That was his 11th dinger of the year.
