Legislature Snuffs Out Gray Market Smokes

May 18, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

An effort to break the cigarette habit among Missouri youth and break-up the sale of so-called gray market cigarettes has passed the Legislature and is headed to Governor Holden’s desk. Gray market cigarettes are often national brands made overseas and shipped into this country to get around paying into the national tobacco settlement fund. Their sale would be banned in the state. The bill also makes it illegal for those under 18 to possess cigarettes.
