Dram Shop Bill Passes House

May 16, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

A bill nearing completion in the State Legislature would make it difficult for anyone to sue a bar whose patron gets drunk and causes injury or death on the drive home. The House has decided the bar can, indeed, be sued. But the standard has been set very high. Anyone suing a bar would have to prove the bartender served the person liquor even though the barkeep knew the patron was underaged or drunk. The bill has been sent back to the Senate.
