Highway Funding Fight Set To Begin

May 7, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

One of the big fights over a huge issue in this legislative session is ready to start — the fight over highway funding. Generally, Democrats want to send a proposal to voters to raise more than $740-million for transportation of all kinds. Generally, Republicans don’t favor the idea. They want to move money from other state agencies to put into highways, without increasing taxes. If the legislature produces anything on transportation during this session it will have to be the result of a major compromise between the House and Senate, which are worlds apart on ideas.
