Suburban communities throughout Missouri are looking for ways to cut down on the noise generated by increased traffic on larger highways. A group from suburban St. Louis wants the state Highways and Transportation Commission to change the rules regarding funding for noise barriers. State money is currently available for municipalities to build noise barriers for existing highways, but the funds are available on a cost-share basis, meaning the local communities must pay part of the cost as well. The group is calling on the state to amend the cost-share idea to make it more affordable to smaller communities.
