The legacy of a little boy dragged to his death as he tried to escape from his mother’s stolen car is about to be written into state law. The Senate has approved a bill nicknamed “Jake’s Law,” and has sent it to the House. It requires law officers to see of other areas have outstanding warrants for people they are holding, and to hold onto the individuals if warrants exist. The law stems from the death of Jake Robel of Independence, whose mother’s car was stolen by a man released from a county jail even though another county had a warrant for the man’s arrest.
