Blues Win Classic in Double OT

May 2, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

Cory Stillman ended a long night of hockey at the 9:26 mark of double overtime, beating Ed Belfour through the five-hole to give the St. Louis Blues a 3-2 win over Dallas. The Blues now lead this best-of-seven series 3-0. St. Louis trailed 2-0 in the second period but rallied to tie on a 2nd period tally by Jochen Hecht and a late third-period goal by Alexander Khavanov. Khavanov’s goal came with just 2:15 remaining in regulation. Both goalies were superb in this one. The Blues Roman Turek made 25 saves, the Stars Belfour 45 in defeat. The Stars did do something no one else has done against St. Louis this post-season. Brett Hull’s goal in the second period was the first power play tally an opponent has scored in 35 chances against the Blues. Game #4 is Thursday night in St. Louis.
