Transportation Accountability Bill Passes House

April 26, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

The Missouri House has passed a transportation accountability bill, but floor debate centered more on a provision allowing toll roads to be built. The bill would create the position of Secretary of Transportation to be appointed by the Governor. Many lawmakers support that, but there is some concern about a transportation commission with the authority to operate toll roads. Supporters worked to assure skeptical members the bill merely presents toll roads as an option. It passes the House on a 91-55 vote. It compliments the $700-million tax package on its way to the Senate.
