K.C. School Board Appeals Demps Reinstatement

April 21, 2001 By admin Leave a Comment

The legal squabble over control of the Kansas City school district goes on. The Kansas City School Board has appealed U.S. District Judge Dean Whipple’s order to reinstate Superintendent Benjamin Demps, who was fired by five members of the Board Wednesday night. The appeal to the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals claims Judge Whipple exceeded his jurisdiction by reinstating Demps and by ordering the Board not to interfere with his stewardship. Among those joining the Board in its appeal is the local chapter of the American Federation of Teachers, the union representing about 2,000 district employees.
