A prison inmate who held a woman employee hostage for nine hours at the state prison in Jefferson City has given up. The hostage, a clerk at the prison infirmary, apparently was not hurt. Prison officials say inmate David Perkins of St. Louis had a knife-like weapon. They say Perkins hoped to use the hostage situation to publicize his demand for a transfer to another prison.
