Horse racing has never gotten established in Missouri, despite voter approval of parimutuel betting sixteen years ago. Representative Wayne Crump of Potosi has tried in the past … and failed to get his horse racing bill through the Legislature. This year he has tightened simulcasting, allowing it only on-site, and increased race day requirements to a minimum of fifty days of live racing. Crump says horse racing will provide economic benefits for the state. But there are those in the Legislature who believe the economic benefits are minimal. The House has given the measure preliminary approval.
